The Lahore Development Authority (LDA), under Director‑General Tahir Farooq, has recently escalated enforcement actions. In a major operation, authorities sealed 124 illegal properties targeting unauthorized commercial buildings and fee defaulters across several areas including Gulberg and Gulshan Ravi. A separate, large-scale recovery drive reclaimed land worth over Rs 400 million.

LDA and Tepa teams demolished the historic bird market at Bhati Chowk near Data Darbar as part of a traffic remodeling project, leading to significant controversy. Shopkeepers alleged that dozens of birds were killed during the operation, while LDA DG Tahir Farooq denied the claims, calling it propaganda and stating no birds were injured, with shopkeepers having been notified beforehand.

A significant new infrastructure project has been approved: a High-Speed Corridor / Expressway from Rafique Kareem Road (Wapda Town) to Pine Avenue / Union Road Extension. The route will pass through key areas including Wapda Town, PIA Housing Scheme, and Township Market, ending near Arfa Kareem Tower. The LDA prepared the plan rapidly, and additional development funds were approved by the Chief Minister of Punjab, aiming to drastically reduce travel times to central Lahore.

In a major update for one of Punjab's largest housing projects, LDA City Lahore has begun granting possession for approximately 4,000 plots. According to LDA DG Tahir Farooq, possession is being granted in six fully developed blocks: A1, B1, G, H, L, and J. The possession charges are notably low at PKR 1,000 per marla. The project boasts direct access to Lahore Ring Road and features completed infrastructure including electricity, water, and carpeted roads.
