The Lahore Authority for Heritage Revival (LAHR), established on 16 March 2025 under the patronage of Nawaz Sharif and executive oversight of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, has initiated a multi-billion-rupee project to restore Lahore’s historical sites—including Shalimar Gardens, Lahore Fort, and Shahdara Complex—and reintroduce pre-Partition names like Krishan Nagar and Jain Mandir Chowk. However, Nawaz Sharif Colony is not listed among the targeted areas in LAHR’s official restoration zones, nor is it referenced in any infrastructure, renaming, or development announcements. It continues routine municipal services under LDA without inclusion in new heritage, housing, or urban renewal schemes.
Following formal approval by the Punjab Cabinet in May 2026, the Lahore Heritage Areas Revival (LHAR) initiative—chaired by Nawaz Sharif—proposed restoring pre-Partition names such as Queen's Road, Krishan Nagar, and Jain Mandir Chowk. However, due to strong opposition from extremist elements and social media vloggers who framed the move as religiously inappropriate, authorities issued a public U-turn. Lahore Deputy Commissioner confirmed on record that no official renaming decision has been implemented, and the proposal remains deferred pending further consultation.
Under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s directives, Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) has launched multiple large-scale housing initiatives—including Journalist Colony Phase-II and New Metro City Lahore—with Rs. 62,500 initial deposits for journalists and accelerated construction on Band Road. These projects are explicitly tied to RUDA’s jurisdiction along the Ravi River corridor and designated development zones. Nawaz Sharif Colony falls outside RUDA’s operational scope and is not referenced in any MoU, site visit, or infrastructure announcement related to these schemes.
