The Lahore Wastewater and Drainage Management Project (LWDMP) has gained major momentum following the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) approval of a PKR 50 billion allocation to upgrade Lahore’s sewerage system. A key component is the construction of a 32.37 km trunk sewer line from Larechs Colony to Gulshan-e-Ravi using advanced trenchless micro-tunnelling technology. The technical tender opening ceremony was held transparently at WASA Lahore, with four international joint ventures participating. The project, co-funded by the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), aims to serve 2.35 million residents across 15,658 acres and eliminate 22 lift stations, significantly improving sanitation and reducing long-term operational costs.

Larechs Colony is now a central anchor point in Lahore’s largest wastewater infrastructure initiative. The LWDMP’s Line A trunk sewer originates at Karachi Phatak and passes through Larechs Colony, connecting to Qartaba Chowk. This route is critical for consolidating sewage flows from multiple disposal stations—including Larechs Colony, Ghazi Mohallah, and Muhammad Nagar—into a single, high-capacity underground conduit. The alignment uses micro-tunnelling boring machines (MTBMs) to minimize surface disruption, reflecting a strategic shift toward minimizing impact on this densely populated residential and commercial zone.

Beyond its role in the LWDMP, Larechs Colony is home to established civic institutions. The Sardar Trust Eye Hospital operates at 28-Canal Bank Scheme, Larechs Colony, providing comprehensive eye care services. Additionally, the Mughalpura Police Station serves the area under the designation 'Shalimar Larechs Colony', confirming its administrative integration into Lahore’s public safety network. These facilities underscore Larechs Colony’s function as a mature, service-equipped urban neighborhood.
