A major infrastructure project to upgrade Lahore's sewerage system, centered on Larechs Colony, has received final federal approval and entered the tendering phase. The Rs 49-50 billion project involves constructing a 28-kilometre underground trunk sewer using trenchless micro-tunnelling technology from Larechs Colony to Gulshan-e-Ravi, replacing pipes 25–60 years old and separating sewage from stormwater to curb flooding. The route passes through key city points including Shimla Pahari, Queens Road, the Punjab Assembly, and Chauburji. Funded by a soft loan from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), the project was approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) in early 2026. A technical tender opening ceremony has been held, signalling that construction is slated to begin soon.
Larechs Avenue is part of the Lahore Railway Employees Cooperative Housing Society (LARECHS), established in 1979 by the Pakistan Railway Department to accommodate railway employees. The society manages 25 residential schemes across Lahore from Shahdara to Walton. It is currently governed by an elected Managing Committee for the 2024-2027 term.
